Technology aims to help in-situ oil sands operations reduce GHG’s, operating costs

Suncor is partnering with Devon Energy and Suez to demonstrate High Temperature Reverse Osmosis (HTRO) membranes for SAGD water treatment. The project is one of eight funded through ERA’s Oil Sands Innovation Challenge. If successful, the membranes could eliminate the need to reduce the temperature and pressure of produced water prior to treatment. This technology has the potential to reduce GHG emissions and cut costs compared to a typical SAGD facility.

We are investing in a diverse portfolio of technologies that will reduce GHG emissions, and we’re helping innovators address barriers to commercialization.
