The Cities and Climate Change Science Conference, co-sponsored by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is taking place in Edmonton March 5 – 7.
About 800 municipal representatives, scientists and academics from around the world will gather to share the latest scientific research on climate change. A host of related events are planned for innovators, policy makers, municipal and thought leaders.

ERA CEO, Steve MacDonald, to Host Panel during the Cities and Climate Change Science Conference
ERA CEO, Steve MacDonald, will moderate a panel on carbon conversion technologies at the EPCOR Stage at the Shaw Conference Centre. The panel includes Issam Dairanieh, CEO, Global CO2 Initiative, and Saad Dara, CEO, Mangrove Technologies.

The EPCOR Stage will also feature presentations from innovators, such as author, Katherine Hayhoe, Edmonton Mayor, Don Iveson, former Toronto Mayor and former President of World Wildlife Fund Canada, David Miller, Michael Doust, from C40 Cities (previously, the London Authority GHG program), and Energy Efficiency Alberta CEO, Monica Curtis.

Pembina Institute and McKinsey Hosting Workshop on how Municipalities can Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
The Pembina Institute, together with McKinsey & Company and Rocky Mountain Institute, are hosting a workshop, Cities Accelerating Change, in Edmonton. The workshop will provide insight about what Alberta cities can do and have done to reduce GHG emissions and take advantage of opportunities related to the sustainable management of electricity, buildings, transportation, and waste.

The Energy Futures Lab is hosting an engaging evening of networking and exploration of the energy transition.

Special guest Linda Coady, co-chair of the national Generation Energy Council and Enbridge’s Chief Sustainability Officer, will share insights from the front lines; Energy Futures Lab Managing Director, Alison Cretney, will outline upcoming opportunities for cities and communities; and ERA CEO, Steve MacDonald, will speak about the important role of innovation.

Panel Discussion – The Power of Art to Influence Social Change
This panel on Art and Environmentalism is a joint initiative of the Art Gallery of Alberta and the University of Alberta. Joan Greer, Professor: History of Art, Design and Visual Culture, UofA, will introduce and moderate the discussion, which will feature presentations by artists and Scholars: Brittney Bear Hat, Debra Davidson, Natalie Loveless, Peter von Tiesenhausen and Sheena Wilson.
