Calgary-based SixRing Inc is planning to construct a commercial demonstration facility in Lethbridge County to convert nature-based residues into sustainable industrial products, replacing comparable products produced via fossil fuels. The SixRing bioconversion process converts underutilized non-food biomass from forestry, agriculture and food processing, doing so at ambient conditions to unlock the value of biomass while materially reducing emissions. The SixRing facility will use underutilized agricultural residues as feedstock, including but not limited to canola straw, as well as landfill construction waste. While SixRing technology can produce a range of sustainable products, including advanced biofuels, sustainable chemicals and biomaterials, the Lethbridge facility will focus on products to serve existing high demand markets such as sustainable intermediate and fine chemicals, bio-corrosion inhibitor, bio-based commodity chemicals, and bio-inputs to anerobic digesters for RNG productivity enhancement. The demonstration facility will be operational in 2025 and serve as a showcase to license this breakthrough technology elsewhere in Alberta, across Canada and internationally.
